Signifikant Manager, client-only installation

The Signifikant Manager client is installed from an installation package with which you can install both the Signifikant server and the client. In this installation scenario, you only want to install the client and connect to a server that is already installed on another machine.

Prerequisites

  • You will need to have administration rights on your machine to install the software.

  • You will also get a copy of the installation package.
    When the installation program is available on a shared file server, it must first be copied to the local computer. You cannot run the installation from the file server, due to Windows security settings, to prevent malicious software from being installed. So start with copying the folder “Standard” to your local computer. If the directory is zipped, unzip it.

Install the Signifikant Manager client application

  1. Locate the Significant Manager Setup Program: “Signifikant Standard Setup.exe” in the “Standard” directory

  2. Right-click on the file and and select "Run as administrator"

  3. In the first dialogue select “Custom” to be able to exclude Signifikant server and SQL Server installations
     

  4. In the next dialogue, make sure to only select “Signifikant client” and uncheck all other options (like “Signifikant Server” or “SQL Server Express”).

  5. If a dialog for selection of SqlServer engine appears, the selection is not relevant when only installing the client. Just accept the proposed database.
     (Just select OK)

  6. Install Signifikant Manager.
    Select "Next", "Install" and "Finish" in the dialogues that are presented to you.

     

On some installations when Manager is connected to a server and the computer where Manager is installed has restrictions, certain settings files cannot be installed. Normally such an error can be ignored.

Configuration

  1. After installation: Start the application "Signifikant Manager" from the Start menu

  2. If you do not see the main menu, press the ALT button

  3. Select "Tools | Options" from the menu, if the Settings dialogue is not displayed automatically

  4. Select the General tab and enter the server address: “http://server_name/AssertServer”
    Include the preceding "http://". You administrator shall provide you with the server name or ip address of your Signifikant server. Replace server_name with that name or ip address.


  5. Press Tab to leave the “Server” field.
    Signifikant Manager will now connect to the server and load the available sites. The “OK” button will be activated

  6. The first site in the Site is automatically selected in the “Site” dropdown list.
    You can select another site from the list, if your server has more than one.

  7. Press OK and the application connects to server and selected site

  8. If you want to work against another site later on, you click on the drop-down icon to the right of the "home" icon and choose the site from the list.

URL or IP address

In some cases using the URL as the server address has caused problems. If this does occur, it could be worth testing to use the IP address.

Version upgrade

When a new version is available, it is installed as follows:

  1. Remove old version in control panel; Programs and Features

  2. Install the new one according to above instructions
    The configuration is maintained during the upgrade
