This document describes the server and software requirements for installing Signifikant. It is intended for technical staff configuring an installation of Signifikant Platform for a client. It describes the platform requirements for an installation. Web Viewer is a lightweight application that only loads servers and when creating large Pdf publications. Normally the load on computers memory and CPU is low, but large databases and high load on users increase requirements.

Software

.Net Framework

Signifikant Platform requires latest version of the framework. Most client and servers have appropriate .Net Framework already. Missing components need to be installed to make Signifikant Platform runs as expected; missing components will need to be downloaded from Microsoft.

SQL Server

SQL Server is used on the Web Server, Manager Server and installations of Small Business Edition and off-line viewers.

The installation program will check for SQL Server. Requirement is SQL Server 2008 or later. Recommended is the most up to date version of SQL.

SQL Server Express is installed if none is found, and it is also required for servers where publications are created or consumed. This includes Manager Server, Web Server, Off line Viewer (stand-alone) and SBE or Starter Edition.

The server must be installed locally on the Web Server and Manager Server.

Note. The version of SQL Server on the Web Server must be the same or later compared to the version of SQL Server on Manager Server.

Server OS

Windows Server 2008 or later is acceptable. Recommended is the most recent version of Windows Server.

IIS

IIS 7 or later is acceptable.

Virtual servers or Azure virtual servers

Signifikant Platform do not cause any problems when installed on Azure virtual servers. The same requirements as above apply here, according to use.

Hardware

Primary memory

Publishing to Pdf requires a lot of memory, when 1000 pages or more are produced. A minimum of 16 GByte is required to get good performance from a publication server. For medium sized databases or with many users 24 GB may be recommended. For very high load and big databases load balanced 32+ GB servers are recommended.

A SQL Server do also occupy a lot of memory, system tuning may be necessary to get good performance on larger systems.

Disk space

A publication may require as little as a few MByte or as much as 1000 GByte. Several publications can be assigned at one time to a server. Thus, it is hard to make recommendations on disk space need for a server. The sum of file sizes for documents and illustrations are a good estimate on the total need.

CPU speed

SE Server or SBE may need several CPU with high speed processors when used to publish to Pdf or to large sites. Four cores recommended for medium to large databases.
